Effective irrigation is the key to our community’s vegetation and beauty. Lockwood’s irrigation system has not been upgraded since it was installed during Lockwood’s early development. New sprinklers were added to the Fairway Court 3 common grounds area, and now these have been expanded to include the median and east end of the road.
Our new grounds contractor, Grass Roots, has been identifying leaks, mapping heads and pipes, and basically, getting the entire system operational again for the first time in years. Many of the existing sprinkler heads were not working, and the ones that were needed adjusting. Now that it is operational again, it will be fully evaluated. It was poorly designed when initially installed, without enough heads for effective coverage. The goal is to determine how much of the current system can be salvaged and how many additional heads need to be installed for it to be effective. We are fortunate that a new variable speed pump was recently installed with plenty of power, so we believe that additional heads can be added without wiring new zones.
Sprinkler system technology has evolved to the extent that zones can now be computer controlled wirelessly. You have all seen the exposed wiring beside Clubhouse Drive, which is subject to frequent breaks, causing sprinkler downtime. It would be great to eliminate wires, but all the options need to be explored to determine the most cost effective approach.
